In the liminal space between wakefulness and sleep lies a realm of boundless creativity known as hypnagogia. It is in this sacred space that the imagination awakens, giving birth to visions that dance across the canvas of the mind.
The Art
"The felt presence of immediate experience—this is all you know.” - Terence McKenna
It emerged in 2020 as a means to cope with changing times. During that uncertain period, my Dad was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. This is when the artwork began to take form. His final day came on August 10, 2021. On that last day of his life, I remember him softly describing his dreams and visions as “spooky.”
I find the meditative practice of layering ink and watercolor immensely therapeutic. My deep connection to the desert landscape of Joshua Tree, CA, aligns with the visual inspiration for much of my work, alongside an ongoing fascination with mind, matter, spirit, consciousness, and the self.
The recurring eye in my work symbolizes the universe observing itself to understand its nature. Through this lens, I examine the shedding of cultural expectations and conditioned belief systems in pursuit of a more liberated and authentic self. The eye also represents the state of pure wonder, witnessing divine beauty.
“Cosmic creativity (art) is an echo of the creative force that birthed the galaxies. Creativity is a means by which the cosmos evolves and communicates with itself. The great uplifting of humanity beyond its self-destruction is the redemptive mission of art.” - Alex Grey
Art has brought purpose and meaning into my life, helping me discover my true voice. By creating otherworldly imagery, I aim to inspire others, hoping it will catalyze their own healing and personal growth. Author and psychologist David R. Hawkins writes:
“Hang on to your confusion. In the end, it is your best friend.”
